Stepney killed
« on: Monday, May 05, 2014 »
Nigel Stepney, ex Ferrari mechanic was killed on Friday after getting out of his van into traffic. Unbelievable really. One of the major cheats in F1 history and we will probably never know the truth of why.

Money. That's why he and Coughlin did it. I hate that he died that way, but the guy was a greedy **** that sold Ferrari down the river so he and Coughlin could get high paying powerful positions at Honda. That's all there is to it.

Not true. He did that all by himself by stealing all that data to begin with. He did that all by his lonesome.

I've heard that tall tale too, but point in fact it was Honda that turned him in. He and Coughlin went to Honda for a job interview with a CD that contained all kinds of data. Stepney had said that it was his body of work along with Coughlin's. Honda was very suspicious about the whole affair and blew the whistle.

It of course turned out to be data from not only Ferrari but McLaren as well. Although McLaren was the only team punished for it when only Coughlin knew anything about it.

He didn't photocopy a damn thing. He just downloaded it all to a CD and walked out the door with it.

Oh i see.

many conflicting reports then, the most up to date 'googl' report has the wife of Mike Coughlan getting caught photocopying them.

That's what happens when you let idiots wiki.

Think about it a second. How in hell would Mike's wife be able to copy anything? She never worked at either place and didn't have access to get past the receptionist, let alone anyplace even remotely secretive.

Secondly, can you just imagine being at the McLaren center or at the Ferrari factory and there being banks of servers along side rows of computers...

and a Xerox machine?

LMAO! Yes. Sure. Right.

It was supposed to have taken place at a shop in surrey and the worker in the shop became suspicious, i believe there may be some truth as it is/was reported in some makor media bubbles such as the gaurdian.

But who knows, to this day it is still fishy.

Again, why would they copy anything? It was all digital data. The both of them went everywhere with laptops, not cases of paperwork.

That was what was printed at the time - that Nigel stole all the data on a CD or jump drive. Then he made a copy of it for Mike, who at the time was working for Alonso. He used that data to set up Alonso's car without telling anybody where he was getting his ideas from. When it started showing dividends, then he and Nigel went to Honda for the job interview talking about how they each had "nurtured" this information and that it worked and they were wanting jobs.

It all sounded a bit too good to be true to Honda, so they notified the FIA who then quietly called Ferrari to ask if they had anything "missing". I believe Honda actually supplied a small bit of the data which Ferrari immediately recognized and the whole thing blew sky high from there.

The one thing for sure though is that Ron Dennis, nor anybody else at McLaren except for Mike and Alonso ever knew about the whole damn thing, and it was Ron and McLaren that wound up paying the tab for it. All of it.

Although it never came out, I am STILL of the opinion that the whole mess was put into play by Alonso. I mean, why else would anybody do it? Think about it:

- Alonso starts getting his ass handed to him by a rookie (Hamilton)

- Desperate, Alonso and his money people tell Mike, "Whatever it takes, here's a blank check".

- Mike calls Nigel, offers him double his salary if he can help out.

- Nigel steals the setup data they were using and sells it to Mike.

- Alonso suddenly, as if by magic, improves. Literally, overnight.

- Nigel hits Mike up with the idea of getting new and higher paying jobs at Honda using their recent "success".

- The interview takes place, but Honda smell a rat. (And rightly so)

- The rest is history. I mean think about it. There is only one man in the last 10 or 12 years that has been involved in EVERY CHEATING SCANDAL THERE IS. Alonso. He was in every single one of them.

That can NOT be a coincidence.
